Making Audio/ Visual Resource Requests

**To make AV requests:

1. Check to see if your classroom has the equipment you need at: http://www.newschool.edu/at/support/presrms/index.html If your room doesn’t meet your needs, you can order equipment online through the AV department: http://www.newschool.edu/at/support/avs/ (through my.newschool.edu). When filling out the form, order the equipment delivery at the time your class starts, as they cannot deliver earlier. Remember that you need to order your equipment A WEEK IN ADVANCE and YOU NEED A GROUPWISE EMAIL ACCOUNT.

2. Arrive at the class at least 10 minutes before the start of class; if AV delivery people come to your classroom and you are not there, they may not leave the equipment.

3. Laptops: In rooms with LCD projectors, you can hook up your laptop to the projector. There is a cable from the wall marked LAPTOP to plug your laptop into. PC laptops are fine for projection, but if you have a Mac (Apple) laptop, you must have a VGA adaptor to hook up to a projector through the cable marked LAPTOP. You can purchase a VGA adaptor at the Apple Store (bring your laptop to make sure you get the right adaptor).

4. If slide projectors or DVD/VHS/TV units are dysfunctional or don’t arrive when ordered, please call Facilities at 229-5456. If computers or projectors or don’t connect correctly or don’t arrive, call AV at 229-5300 x2310. For dysfunctional computers, call the Help Desk: 229-5300 x2828. Problems can be posted at: http://www.newschool.edu/at/forms/problem_report/presentationclassrooms.html It is important to be active about problem solving as these issues effect everyone.

Important Contact Information. Faculty may find it useful to carry the contact information of the following offices on them during the semester.

Audio/Visual Requests (Manager, Brian Kase kaseb@newschool.edu) (installed LCD projectors and deliverable computers)
66 West 12th street, Room 303

5. DO NOT ORDER A COMPUTER TO PLAY DVDs. The best way to do this is to order a DVD/VHS/TV unit to be delivered to your classroom. If you absolutely must project, you can also order an LCD projector from the:

ARC (Advanced Resource Center, 66 5th Avenue, room 404 212.229.8990 x4446)

** The ARC is the backup equipment center. If you cannot get what you need from AV, you can order what you need (LCD projectors, computers, speakers, etc)from the ARC: http://faculty.parsons.edu/arc/

  • The ARC is a pilot program and hence the center is open from 8:30-6:30. One major difference between the AV and ARC is that AV delivers equipment and ARC does not. If you arrive about 30 minutes early to get your ARC equipment, they will show you how to set it up and give you the appropriate cables WHEN YOU EXPLAIN what you need to do.
  • The ARC has great little LCD projectors that can be hooked up to computers and VHS players, but you must order speakers for sound. Talk to the ARC about how to connect the devices.
  • When you fill out online forms, remember that you can only reserve equipment out in 3 hour blocks. To order equipment for 6 hours, you have to order the same piece of equipment twice.
