Parsons Faculty Resource Center | Facility Use Guidelines

Access
The Center is open to all Parsons' part-time instructors (degree and non-degree) teaching in the current semester. Access is by use of electronic proximity cards. A list of active part-time instructors has been provided to Security. Current part-time instructors can pick up their access cards at the Security Office between the hours of 9am – 5pm and 5:30 - 6:30 Monday thru Friday, and noon - 2pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Instructors must provide a current ID card and their Banner ID number to obtain an access card.

Hours of operation
The Center is open from 8 am to 9:30 pm, Monday thru Sunday. The room is open during regular building hours for the full-time faculty assigned to the internal offices. Student workers are on duty weekdays. For emergency access call Security at X5165.

Activities
The Faculty Resource Center is primarily designed to support Parsons' part-time instructors who need to check email, access ALVIN, print out documents, and copy handouts. Part-time instructors may also choose to hold office hours in the Center. However, no more than 2 students per instructor should be in the Center at any one time. [Larger groups may meet next door at the Student Design Center.] Posting of faculty office hours should be in the department and not at the Center.

Support
The Center has a trained student to oversee its operation and contact maintenance, facilities, and the helpdesk when necessary. Instructors should report problems to the student on duty. The student will not regulate the usage of the computers.

Computers
Computers are set up for email/internet access, the Microsoft Office Suite, and the Adobe Creative Suite. QuarkXpress is also available on a limited number of stations. Laptop ports are available and the room has a wireless connection to the network. More sophisticated computers, software and printers can be found at 55 West 13th Street and at various other University locations. Faculty should not save any files to the hard drives. Hard drives will be cleaned throughout the day. Instructors may not unplug and/or change components of the computer. Students may not use the computers in the Faculty Resource Center. Food and drink should be kept away from the computers.

Security
The doors to the Center are equipped with automatic door closers to help prevent unauthorized access. Although the Center may be staffed during operating hours, instructors are reminded not to leave any personal items unattended in the Center. The School will not be responsible for any items lost, stolen or damaged in the Center. In addition, instructors should be sure to log off from a network or internet connection before leaving the Center.

Miscellaneous
Rest rooms and vending machines with snacks and beverages are located in the 6 West elevator lobby just off the Faculty Resource Center. As a matter of courtesy, cell phone calls should be taken outside the Center in the elevator lobby.
